Louise Mckinney Scholarship applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person (visa students are not eligible), and have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Between September and April of the previous academic year, the applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
  • be an Alberta resident. One of the following conditions must be met in order to be declared an Alberta resident:
  • Before the student can begin post-secondary courses, one parent or legal guardian must have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 12 months in a row, or Alberta is the last place the student lived for 12 months straight before beginning college or university, or
  • Prior to attending college or university, the student’s spouse or partner resided in Alberta as a permanent resident for a period of 12 months.
  • be enrolled full-time in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate or professional degree at a publicly financed post-secondary institution in Alberta, and be in good academic standing as determined by the college or university.
  • Students who have been nominated for a Jason Lang Scholarship in the same academic year, are in a graduate program, are an apprentice, or are upgrading are not eligible for a Louise McKinney Scholarship.

Requirements for Louise McKinney Post-secondary Scholarship

How to Apply – Application Process

Students studying outside of Alberta must provide an academic transcript, a letter from the Registrar stating their class position in the top 2% of their previous year’s program enrolment, and a completed application form by the applicant.

Your transcript must bear an authentic signature or seal from your school or institution. This indicates that the material was created by your school or institution. Copies made by copying or faxing will not be accepted. Students enrolled in college or university must contact their respective institutions to obtain official transcripts.
