The province named after Ontario is Canada’s most populous territory. It is the home of the capital, Ottawa, and more than 38% of Canadians live there.

Because of this density, Ontario has become a hotbed of higher education institutions. The province, after all, is home to 22 public universities, 24 public colleges, and 17 private religious universities.

Ontario is a popular location for foreigners due to its diverse educational possibilities and widespread use of the English language. It has the most international students, with over 223,000.

1. Ontario Trillium Scholarship

Amount of the scholarship: up to CAD 40,000/$31,860 per year

A doctorate degree at participating Ontario universities is required.

The Ontario Trillium Scholarship is a competitive admission prize for full-time Ph.D. students with a Canadian study visa.

It costs CAD 40,000/$31,860 and is financed by both the Ontario government and the participating universities.

The latter may provide financing in the form of a monetary scholarship or teaching or research assistantships.

To be eligible for this Ontario scholarships, the applicant must have a first-class average (the equivalent of an A) in the two years before the doctorate program.

If the scholar becomes a permanent resident of Canada while studying, they will be forced to pay the university-sponsored sum.

Students currently enrolled at an Ontario institution are ineligible for the prize. Students who hold other scholarships will also be deemed ineligible.

The selection process will be carried out by the participating universities. They will be in charge of selecting award winners from a pool of top-ranked nominees.

2. Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) Program

Amount of Scholarship: Up to CAD 15,000/$11,950 per term for up to four years

Eligible Degree: A Master’s or Doctorate degree from one of Ontario’s partnering universities.

The Ontario Graduate Award (OGS) is a merit-based award available in Ontario to international graduate students who intend to study at participating provincial universities.

Like the Trillium scholarship, the government will cover two-thirds of the cost, with the remaining fees covered by the university.

OGS are valid for at least one academic year. It is, however, only available for a maximum of two years for Master’s students and four years for Ph.D. students.

Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time Master’s or Ph.D. program for at least two years in order to apply for the OGS program.

The student should be admitted to any of Ontario Scholarships participating universities. In the first place, they’ll need to route their application packets.

Scholars will be selected and granted based on the university’s selection process and conditions.

3. University of Toronto – Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship

Amount of the scholarship: full tuition

A bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto (U of T) is required.

The University of Toronto, founded in 1827, is Canada’s top-ranked university. It is a global leader in teaching and research, and it continues to attract brilliant international students through its numerous scholarships.

The Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship is one of them.

The prize, named for the former Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is awarded to outstanding students who are recognized as school leaders. It includes the entire tuition, excluding incidental costs, study materials, and lodging.

The international student must be currently enrolled in secondary school to be eligible for this Ontario scholarships program. Regardless of this ruling, new graduates will be considered.

Unlike other scholarships, students are not permitted to apply for themselves. Their schools must nominate them to be included in the pool.

Similarly, only students who have chosen U of T as their first choice in their application will be considered for the award.

Every year, the results are revealed at the end of April.

4. University of Waterloo International Student Awards

Scholarship Amount: CAD 24,504/$19,520 per year for up to four years

A master’s or doctorate degree from the University of Waterloo is required.

The University of Waterloo is a public research university in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1959 and is one of the local universities that provides scholarships to international graduate students.

The International Master’s (IMSA) and Doctoral (IDSA) Student Awards are among the Ontario scholarships available to international students.

The amount of the waiver is determined by the program, with Ph.D. students receiving a minimum of CAD 24,504 or $19,520.

This bursary, however, will vary depending on the scholar’s academic record. The greatest amount is frequently awarded to individuals admitted at the master’s level.

IMSA recipients, on the other hand, receive a reduced subsidy of CAD 2,570/$2,050 each term.

Students possessing a Canadian study visa are eligible to attend IMSA. Similarly, they should be enrolled in a university MA, MFA, MES, MMATH, MSC, or MSC program.

As with other Ontario scholarships, IMSA and IDSA scholars will be ineligible if they receive other forms of financial help.

5. Global Leadership Award

Amount of the scholarship: CAD 18,000/$14,335 per year for four years

A bachelor’s degree from Ontario Tech is required.

Ontario Tech, formerly known as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, is a public university located in Oshawa, Ontario.

It provides engineering and computer-related courses, as the name implies. The university is ranked third and fourth in the country for these programs, respectively.

The Global Leadership Award is the most coveted Ontario Scholarships available to overseas students at Ontario Tech. It is an application-based bursary awarded to promising international undergraduate students.

The fund is a competitive sort of scholarship, awarding CAD 18,000/$14,335 per year for four years. As such, it is given to deserving candidates who have demonstrated great intellectual and leadership abilities.

The applicant must not have previously attended a post-secondary institution to be eligible for this Ontario award. In addition, the student should aim to take at least 80 courses per semester.

Global Leadership scholars, like most other scholarships, should not hold another type of cash award.
