About Schulich Leader Scholarship
The Schulich Leader Scholarships are a Canadian and Israeli undergraduate award program that gives scholarships to STEM students.
The program was founded in 2011 with a $100 million gift from Canadian businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich and is co-administered by the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.
Its goal is to produce STEM leaders to strengthen Canada’s and Israel’s economic competitiveness.
In the first year, 977 high schools and CÉGEPs from throughout Canada nominated a student to compete in the yearly award competition.
In 2015, 1,250 applicants were nominated for the fellowship, with fifty chosen by one of the twenty participating colleges.

Scholarship Qualification
The first step in determining your eligibility for the Schulich scholarship is to validate your eligibility.
There are four basic criteria to consider:
- Academic excellence (a GPA of 80–90% or higher is preferred)
- Creativity, charm, and leadership
- Entrepreneurial-minded
- Pursuing a career in technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, or applied scientific research
- They also give preference to those who are in financial need; however, this is not a condition.
- Be aware of several key distinctions that may render you ineligible.
- If you want to do the following, you are ineligible:
- Concentrate solely on activism in your future job (for example, environmental, political, sociological…)
- Become a practicing physician or a medical researcher (there will be no future nurses or doctors).
- Become a theoretical researcher or professor.
The Schulich Scholarship is likewise exclusively accessible to students planning to attend one of the 20 partner colleges.
Most of Canada’s top universities are represented, so chances are at least one of your post-secondary options is among them.
However, you should review the list and select your top three universities from it.
This prize is for you if you meet all of the criteria thus far and have a vision for the future of STEM. Each year, up to one hundred scholarships are available for high school seniors.

The Schulich Leader Scholarship Application Process
The true procedure of how to earn the Schulich scholarship begins now that you’ve established your eligibility! There are several steps to the application procedure. We’ll go over each one below!
Nomination
Nomination is the first step toward winning the Schulich Scholarship! To be eligible for the award, you must be nominated by your school. One student may be nominated by each school.
Every school has a distinct process for nominating kids; contact your guidance counselor or administrator about yours!
This year, nominations are due by January 27, 2021.
Only about 1500 of Canada’s over 300,000 high school pupils receive nominations. So just getting this far is an enormous accomplishment!
Don’t worry if you’re in Grades 9, 10, or 11 and aren’t sure if you satisfy the criteria for nomination.

Who is qualified for the scholarship?
Criteria for student eligibility:
Canadian citizen or permanent resident graduating from high school or cégep in Canada in the 2023-2024 academic year
Consider enrolling in a STEM program at one of our 20 partner universities.
Meet the following requirements:
Academic achievement, and charm, leadership, and creativity Students in financial need will be given special consideration.
Have an entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to work in one or more of the following focus areas: Engineering; Technology; Entrepreneurship and business activity; Applied scientific research
- Aspire to be a practicing physician or medical researcher (e.g., doctor, dentist, nurse, psychologist, pharmacist, optometrist, etc.).
- Aspire to be a Professor and do theoretical research
Nominees must promote Western, democratic ideas while also being courteous of people from many backgrounds. There is no tolerance for racist or antisemitic displays. You should not apply for this prize if you do not support these ideals and/or engage in destructive rhetoric/activities.

What grades satisfy the Academic Excellence requirement?
The concept of “Academic Excellence” is up to each individual high school or cégep. Students must have the necessary grades to get admitted to their desired program(s).
What is the definition of Financial Need?
Students who want to seek for government help for undergraduate studies at a university would fit the condition of “Financial Need.”
Which high schools are qualified to take part?
Participation is open to all public and private high schools and cégeps in Canada.
In Quebec, only students from high schools who plan to attend university are eligible to participate.
What is the procedure for applying?
The following is the application process for becoming a Schulich Leader and receiving the scholarship:
- The high school / cégep makes this possibility known to their student body.
- Each high school or cégep chooses one student to be their Schulich Leader Nominee (cégeps may choose up to four Nominees).
- The nominee must submit a second Schulich Leader scholarship application.
- Universities evaluate applications and choose scholarship beneficiaries.
